In this blog, we’ll give you five great reasons to take an aged care course in 2023. We’ll also reveal which courses you can enrol in today with Sage Education.

What is aged care?

Aged care work is all about providing holistic, person-centred support to older people who require assistance in their daily lives.

Many people assume that aged care is all about physical assistance, but this isn’t always the case. As an aged care worker, you may provide everything from daily task help to emotional support. It’ll be up to you to adapt your service to provide personalised care in line with your client’s needs and wants.

Fortunately, with the right training program, it’s now easier than ever to become a certified aged care worker. When you enrol with Sage, you’ll build the lifelong skills you need to start a rewarding career in the industry. Plus, if you live in Queensland, you may even be eligible for a government-subsidised place on the course.

But before we get into that, let’s explore five reasons you could consider studying an aged care course in 2023.

5 Reasons to study an aged care course in 2023

There are more reasons than one to get started with aged care. In this section, we’ll discuss five reasons you should consider enrolling in an aged care course today.

1) You’ll gain job-ready skills

Aged care training is hands-on and practical. You won’t need to spend hours revising to take a lengthy written exam at the end of your course. Instead, your training will include a mixture of in-person sessions, classroom lessons and hands-on exams.

The beauty of aged care courses is that they focus on skills that you can immediately apply to your chosen career. Once you’ve finished your training, you’ll have all the expertise you need to transition into your chosen career.

Plus, your qualification acts as a valuable certification you can put on your CV. This makes you more attractive than employers and means you’re likely to land a job in a short space of time.

2) Aged care workers are massively in demand

It’s no secret that aged care workers are in massive demand throughout Australia. Our country needs hundreds of thousands of workers to meet the needs of an ageing population, and there currently aren’t enough applicants to fill the gaps.

Fortunately, this means there’s never been a better time to get involved in the industry. Huge demand makes it easier to find work and improves your job security. It also makes it considerably easier to move up the ladder into senior positions.

3) You’ll have the chance to make a difference

Australia’s aging population mean more and more older people require assistance from qualified practitioners. As a full-time personal care worker, you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of dozens of individuals who need your support.

Aged care work is more than just helping with chores. You’ll be able to facilitate well-being, encourage activities, and empower older people to live their lives to the fullest. If you’re a compassionate individual who loves supporting individuals, an aged care course will give you the skills you need to start a long, rewarding career in one of Australia’s fastest-growing industries.

4) Start a well-paying role in a short space of time

Aged care workers benefit from outstanding career prospects the moment they receive their certification.

You can expect to start a rewarding career earning a starting salary of $50,000-$60,000 within weeks of completing your course.

To sweeten the deal, the government is also aiming to increase aged care wages by 15% as part of its 2023-24 budget plan. With this in mind, aged care workers could be earning as high as $69000 as a starting salary in the coming years.

5) Unlock flexible career opportunities

Having an aged care qualification doesn’t limit you to a single path. Your certification can open up dozens of career doors. This offers you the opportunity to change direction further down the line.

For example, with an aged care qualification from Sage, you could expect to find work in roles such as:

  • Aged care support worker
  • Nursing Assistant
  • Personal care assistant
  • Respite care worker
  • Community-based care worker
  • Retirement village care worker
  • Community Program Coordinator
  • Residential Care Worker
  • Care Supervisor
  • Residential Care Officer
  • Day Activity Worker

There’s no need to resign yourself to a linear career path when you gain an aged care certification from Sage. Whatever you choose to do, your new qualification will act as the perfect launchpad for your career goals.
